Charming Chester

Tomorrow we are booked on the ferry to Ireland, so today we are driving into Wales and staying at Holyhead, where the ferry to Dublin leaves in the morning. On the way we planned to take a circuitous route and visit a couple of interesting places.

Chester is the cutest little town, almost completely encircled by some of the best preserved medieval walls in England. You can walk the path along the length of the wall, and take in the lovely ambience of the town, including the beautiful Chester Cathedral, the Roman relics and the River Dee as well as the famous Chester Rows, which are unique double storey shopping rows that have existed since at least the 13th century, and are found nowhere else in the world.

  Venice is amazing! Today we walked our legs off again, there are so many little laneways, amazing buildings, and of course the canals everywhere. So much to see. We've been practicing our Italian, which is getting us a few laughs. Everyone is so friendly, except perhaps the lady in the supermarket who was not happy when our card wouldn't work, lol. I don't know how many gondolas there are in Venice, but we seem to be surrounded by them wherever we go.

  Well, it's starting to get exciting. Only a few more weeks before we head off on the trip of a lifetime. We're busy planning and catching up with friends before we leave. But, you can't plan everything and sometimes it's the surprises that are the best part.
