Great video of us crossing the Chirk Aqueduct

Peter Salisbury took this video of us crossing the iconic Chirk Aqueduct. On our return trip from Llangollen we crossed this as well as the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct which is the longest canal aqueduct in Great Britain, and the highest canal aqueduct in the world. Standing 39 metres above the River Dee, the Pontcysyllte aqueduct is 307 metres long and is constructed of an iron trough supported by 18 hollow masonry piers. It was designed by civil engineer Thomas Telford and built over about a 10 year period and was completed in 1805.

It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and recognised as an engineering masterpiece of the industrial revolution and it was very special to travel both ways over both aqueducts.

It all looks so wonderful, I got my Illustrated guide to Britain out, great suggestion Neville, and I'm following you all, loved the Horseshoe Falls and the Abbey, the photography is very special and brings everything alive. If anyone could catch an unusual item it would have to be Peter, keep on enjoying, love to you all

  3. Good to see Peter’s fishing skills are not diminished tho somewhat surprised that no one stripped of and dived into those welcoming waters of the canal!! Unfortunately the video didn’t appear on the post but it is an amazing structure and resilient given its build date. Maybe if you have a good map of the canals where you have travelled you could photograph it for us ignorant antediluvians. Hope the weather stays friendly. Cheers
