Bunratty Castle and folk park

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park in Limerick is pretty touristy, but still a fun place to visit and see how both the gentry and the peasants lived.

To be honest, even the castle didn't look as though it would be at all comfortable to live in with it's extremely narrow and steep spiral staircases winding up each tower. The great hall and the main guard rooms were large, but all the other areas were quite small and pokey. Bunratty castle is by far the most compact castle we have visited, and is described more as a fortified tower house.

The folk park is very interesting with its reconstructed cottages, farms and even a street with shops, doctor and a pub. The variety of cottages showcases the typical living arrangements of people from the single room cottages of poor labourers and fishermen, many with thatched roofs, through to Bunratty House with it's five bedrooms and regency walled garden.
