Refueling at Market Drayton
We haven't topped up our fuel since starting our trip and had planned where to stop for fuel along the way in a few days, but this afternoon Peter spotted the passing fuel boat through the window so we called them over and organized to fill our diesel right here at our mooring.
Fuel Boat Halsall are historic narrowboats that deliver coal, gas and diesel to boats on the canals. They pulled up close alongside our boat, and refilled our diesel while having a chat with the boys.
We have just caught up on your last 3 blog entries as we seem to have been rushing here and there. Love the way you are sharing those little events and sights that make up your daily experiences. Combined with the photos helps us get a feeling of what your journey is like. Have you been able to get an impression of how the local people feel about their lives in England now. The photos seem to show a picture of prosperity in the rural villages where you have been. Back here we had our best sunny spring day so we are all feeling spritely. Love to all
ReplyDeleteAs far as we have seen, things seem pretty good in rural England at the moment. All the houses and farms look well cared for, and many homes have lovely gardens. Of course there is a big range from tiny cottages to grand estates but the coffee shops and pubs seem to be well patronized and we have noticed there is almost no graffiti or rubbish in the streets. We haven't noticed many homeless people, although we've seen a couple of tents tucked in the bushes, and some people appear to be living on almost derelict narrowboats. We have met a lot of lovely people volunteering for the canal trust, operating some of the locks, painting benches and trimming vegetation along the towpaths. Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming.
ReplyDeleteIt's getting colder now, and daylight saving ends next weekend so winter is almost upon us. Hugs to you both from all of us. Xx
