The Cliffs of Moher
'The Princess Bride' is one of our favourite movies that we watch time and again, and it was fun to discover today that the Cliffs of Moher feature in the scene where the pirates have kidnapped Princess Buttercup and scale the Cliffs of Insanity, followed by Westley, who climbs the vertical cliff face even after the rope is cut.
The cliffs have featured in many other movies, including Ryan's Daughter and Harry Potter, where the sea cave at the bottom is used in 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'. The sheer vertical drop, the rolling headlands and the breathtaking views make the cliffs a perfect backdrop for epic scenes.
I was a little disappointed that some of the walks along the cliff tops are closed at this time, as I was looking forward to the experience, but it is still an amazing vista and you are able to climb to the top of O'Briens tower, which was built in 1835 by the owner of the land, as a folly to entertain his guests, and has now been refurbished as part of the Cliffs of Moher experience.
OMG you are seeing some spectacular scenery, Ireland is a great place to visit.
