Blustery Cornwall Coast

This is the view from our little rental cottage in Mousehole. It's a great spot high above the  wild sea.

It’s Remembrance Day 2025, so our plan was to make our way to the famous Minack theatre, near Porthcurno, perched on the cliff top above the stormy Atlantic Ocean, where Peter was to play the Last Post for us at 11am. Even though the theatre was closed to the public, we found a spot high above the stormy sea for Peter to play.

A friendly local who stopped to listen and speak with us recommended we visit St. Just, for lunch at her favourite cafe, The Dog & Rabbit, and to visit the lovely Norman era church in the village.

After lunch and a walk around the village we ventured out to Cape Cornwall, where we were nearly blown off the land by the gale force winds. The ocean was wild, with white horses blowing off the tops of the huge waves. Val and I walked down towards the end of the promontory but it was just too windy to even walk straight.

On our way back to Mousehole we paused to watch the huge waves breaking over the Newlyn Lighthouse, on the outer edge of the safe boat harbour. The waves were enormous and we were shocked to discover someone was swimming in the water behind the lighthouse, very close to the high rock wall. It seemed a very stupid thing to be doing. If you look closely you can see him in the water to the right of the lighthouse in the first photo.

  1. Hi everyone, I was thinking about you Peter and how we missed you here on remembrance day, it was very wet so we had it in the Western port, hotel, not the same. You are going to some fabulous places, I read a murder mystery that was based on St Michael Mount, they couldn't get off as the tide had come in, very scary.keep on enjoying yourselves, love to you all

  2. Thanks Jackie. Zoom right in on the top lighthouse picture and you can see the tiny person below the stone wall. That was scary!
