On our way....
We woke to beautiful sunshine this morning, and after breakfast set off puttering up the Shropshire Union canal on our way to Nantwich.
Peter took the helm once we were out of the marina, and did a great job of steering us through six miles of canal and three locks between Overwater Marina and Nantwich. It's quite different steering to our boat at home, mainly because the front of the boat is so far from the helm at the stern.
It's so pretty along the canals, green fields on either side, and all the bushes have berries of blue, red or orange. Not much autumn foliage yet, but I'm sure that will come in time. The old stone bridges are picturesque and are all numbered, which helps with navigation.
Peter and Val have used locks on the canals before, but it was a new experience for us. We'll have plenty of time to learn all the different types of locks over the next three months.
We moored alongside the towpath just outside Nantwich and walked into town for lunch and more supplies. Nantwich is a cute little town, with lots of Tudor stye buildings and we had lunch at a quaint cafe/book shop in an old Tudor building.

Beautiful 😍
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, great to see you made it,looks like you are in light clothes so I hope it's not going to get cold. Shame about the rain, it did look funny seeing you walking past a tudor style home with your shopping, have lots of fun, love you all.
ReplyDeleteHey. On your way. Looks fantastic and a long way from bow to stern. Is tha accomodation all that you expected? We are trying hard to imaging the throb of the motor as you glide down those scenic canals. Photos spect as usual. We will get it the atlas and try to follow your journey. Enjoy
DeleteThanks everyone for the messages. Just saw them because the internet is very little to none. The last 3 days have been sunny, luckily. The boat is fine, plenty of space, the woodworking is not as fine as yours, Neville. 😉 It's a long way between bow and stern, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI have another 3 days worth of posts ready , for when I can get decent reception.
