Salisbury's in Salisbury (or should that be Salisburys in Salisbury ?)

We had one night at Salisbury so that we could have a look at the town named after our (Salisbury) family and see the famous Salisbury Cathedral. I’m so glad we did.

It was a long and wet drive from Mousehole in Cornwall to Salisbury in Wiltshire, it took us over five hours by the time we stopped for a quick lunch, so we were happy to arrive and discover our accommodation at Caboose B&B was extremely nice and in a wonderful central spot. The downstairs breakfast room is in the process of being transformed into a cocktail bar, and was beautifully decorated in colours of teal and gold in a 1920’s style. The photos don’t do it justice, it was very beautiful and eclectic.

Salisbury Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral built in the Early English Gothic design. It looks spectacular and boasts Britain’s tallest spire as well as housing one of four surviving original copies of the 1215 Magna Carta and an ancient mechanical clock, said to be the oldest working clock in the world. The building itself is magnificent and I really liked the peace of the cloisters surrounding a garden with two large 150 year old cedar trees. The afternoon was drawing in, so we went for a little walk around the surrounding streets and parkland as the sun went down. The days are getting much shorter now, sunset is around 4:30pm and it’s properly dark by about 5pm. Luckily the rain had gone by then.Last night we enjoyed what would have to be my favourite meal since arriving in the UK. There was a Turkish restaurant just around the corner from where we were staying, it had excellent reviews so we thought we’d give it a try. The food was amazing, very authentic Turkish food cooked and served by Turkish gentlemen. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I loved that the chef was cooking in full view of the table, and took such great care with everything he made. It was a truly memorable meal.We finished off the evening with a walk around town. We could easily have spent another couple of days in Salisbury, I feel we barely scratched the surface. And it seems Paddington Bear lives here!
