Mevagissey

Don’t you love the name? We’ve had a couple of nights in Mevagissey. It’s a picturesque Cornish fishing village and is the second largest fishing port in Cornwall.

We booked accommodation in Cliff Street, and guess what? It’s on a cliff… it’s at the top of an extremely steep path that leads down into the town. Walking down is one thing, getting back up is another thing entirely. But worth the effort, it is a very lovely little harbour.

The town is historically important for pilchard fishing and smuggling and is picture book perfect. I took these photos the night we arrived. On the Sunday we had unrelenting rain, so we ventured into town to the Smuggler’s Inn where we enjoyed a roast lunch. It’s getting to be quite the habit…
